Itaewon Class - A Motivational Story

A Big Hello to my readers!

안녕 독자

This blog is dedicated to my love for #ItaewonClass, a drama that made me wonder if what I was doing in my life was enough? It helped me revive my passion for writing and think hard about finding my life goals, my heartfelt dreams.

Well, from my first blog, you must be aware that I love watching K-dramas. The primary reason for my fascination for K-dramas is based on the ample number of K-dramas available on Netflix, loaded with amazing content in various genres like Sci-fi, Fiction, Action, Thriller, History and so on. Also, the fact that each series comprises of 16-20-episodes is what makes it more exciting and fulfilling experience.

I especially love romantic genre, but this is one such story that shook me and made me think “Will I ever be like Park Sae-ro-yi or Jo Yi-seo?” This is a story of a guy who worked day and night for 15 years to achieve his dream and a girl who worked hard to make her lover’s dream come true by helping him fulfil his dream.

When this series was released on Netflix, I was not sure about the story even after watching its trailer and ignored watching it for good 3-4 months. But I love Park Seo-joon’s acting and different roles that he always chooses to perform, which provided me the willingness to watch this drama. I must say I should have watched it immediately when it was released. Anyways, it’s better late than never. 😊

This K-drama was nominated in South Korean 56th Baeksang Arts Awards 2020 in 7 different categories and won for ‘New Actress’ in TV Award category. Kim Da-mi played lead role for character Jo Yi-seo and rightfully deserved the award she bagged. Her passionate performance and the story line for the female lead character aspired me to be like her and achieve my goals.

This drama showcases how the powerful people can demean the weaker and less privileged section of the society. It beautifully demonstrates that presence of strong willpower and determination to achieve something can arm even a weak and poor person to create wonders in their life. This drama showcases what it is to be like a true leader and family to your people. How does motivating your people inspire them achieve their wishes and face the difficult times and toughest truth of life together. By the way, if you are wondering why name of this drama is Itaewon Class, I recommend you to watch the series and enjoy the quest for the title... 😊

The quotes in this drama made me feel like – Yes! even I want to find the dream and goal of my life and start working on it like Park Sae-ro-yi. It showcased how people with less will-power, or maybe you can say a layman who just wants to survive in this society, can end up like Oh Soo-ah. I would say most of us in this world are like Oh Soo-ah, falling prey into the hands of powerful people and ending up like Chase’s Pawn just to make the ends meet. Let me applaud Ma Hyeon-yi and Choi Seung-gwon for the great grit and persistence with which they changed their life; instead of being someone with no hope in their lives, they became a hope for people from their backgrounds.

In my opinion, Itaewon Class is one of the must watch dramas of 21st century which showcases how a group of people from diverse backgrounds are suppressed by powerful clan of society. This drama gives us motivation to work according to our life’s principles, goals and to never bow in front of anyone or apologize if one has not done anything wrong. Instead, be like a Phoenix and emerge from the ashes until the ones suppressing you are crushed.

I would conclude our today’s blog with the below quote/poem I loved from Itaewon Class, that gave me goose bumps and sheer-will to be something like Park Sae-ro-yi.

I’m a rock.

Go ahead and sear me.

I won’t budge an inch because I’m a rock.

Go ahead and beat me up.

I’m a solid rock.

Go ahead and leave me in darkness.

I’m a rock that will shine all alone.

I don’t break, ash, nor decay as I go against nature’s way.

I survive. I’m diamond.”
